Why is the show format different this year?
In June 2024 we ran a survey to collect customer feedback about their experience with CKTS. Many families commented that the annual whole school production was a highlight of their year and greatly enjoyed; but that it was also a big commitment and sometimes they would like the option to use the half term break to go away or do other things.
By moving to a new two-year performance cycle, we are able to provide the whole school show experience one year, where the expectation is the majority of CKTS students participate, and then the following year offer an ‘opt-in’ project which is rehearsed outside of class time.
The benefits of this are:
-
Families that want to take part in a show every year, can choose to do so
-
Families that want to go away or plan other activities for the October half term know that every other year there is the chance to not participate in the show without their child’s classes being impacted
-
On the year of the ‘opt-in’ project, our weekly classes will continue to work towards their relevant exams or skills based classes, resulting in smoother progression
-
We hope that this means all families choosing to participate in the whole-school production in October 2026
-
We are able to offer a wider range of performances - staging a full musical as we are doing this year would not be possible when rehearsing in separate classes
-
The ‘opt-in’ project will enable students to work across age groups, rather than just within their normal class group which we hope will foster new friendships and boost confidence
Why do we have to pay in addition to our normal class fees? When we do a whole school production, we pay a smaller fee to contribute to the production costs and costume hire but still get additional Sunday rehearsals and loads of time in the theatre!
We appreciate that our whole school productions represent excellent value! Our shows are budgeted to break even (and that’s with an unimaginable amount of volunteer hours given so generously by our team). We do not make any profit on any of our shows. We are able to provide the whole school shows at a lower cost for a few reasons:
-
Whole school productions are rehearsed in class time, therefore the termly class fees are contributing towards the cost of rehearsing the show

-
The expectation is that all students participate in the whole school production; more performers means the production costs are shared between more people and we also sell more tickets!
High School Musical will provide six weekend rehearsals plus four days of rehearsal during October half term, alongside two days in The Elgiva for £249 (or £199 if you book before 15th May!). We hope you can appreciate that this does represent incredible value.
Plus, if you don’t wish to pay, this is an optional project and choosing to not participate will not impact your child’s normal classes at CKTS at all. It’s almost like taking an extra class for a term, as your child will still be learning new things and making progress in their normal weekly classes.
Are there any other costs?
The participation fee includes all the rehearsal and performance dates and costume hire. Tickets will need to be purchased separately and will go on sale in May.
There will be a show t-shirt and digital recording of the show available to purchase (optional). We cannot confirm the price of these until we know the number of performers taking part.
